Typhoon Ondoy’s (Ketsana) Wrath

Before – During – After

Before – During – After

September 26, 2009 Cainta, Rizal

5:00 AM

My shift ended and all I could think of was how to get rid of a certain unwanted file in my computer. I planned on spending the rest of my weekend “cleaning” and making sure that there is no foreign file in my ever-so-beloved notebook. Little did i know that SSCVIHOST would be the least of my worries.

After consulting 4 people about the posssible virus in my pc, I decided to go home. On my way out, I came across TL mike. He mentioned that it is already flooded (outside Teletech – Robinsons).

I was thinking, maybe i should wait for the water to subside and for the rain to stop. But then again, I decided to head home and brave the storm. The streets leading home were, by then, filled with water — knee-high. Gladly the tricycle I hired was efficient enough to bring me home.

6:30 AM
Went to bed … I guess. :p

around 12 PM

I was awakened by a knock on my door. Something must be wrong (for them to bother me..hehe!). I opened my door and heard Nanay saying “Pinasok na tayo ng baha”.

Nanay’s room, family dining area, bathroom, and the servant’s quarter (as if we have a servant – sige extra room n lng) were already flooded – about 2-3 inches high. These rooms are situated at the lowest (level) part of the house.

12:24 PM

I was still in my pyjamas, so I decided to run upstairs and change. I had a QUICK change of clothes … had my cellphone and notebook charging. I run back downstairs and saw the water have now reached one-step higher — onto formal dining room area.

12:30 PM

Nanay’s room. About 6 minutes ago, the seemed clear … by now, it’s murky/muddy.

12:45 PM

Water was rising fast … we we’re moving things from all four rooms to the main living room — which is four steps higher than the formal dining area.

12:48 PM
Take note of the love seat on the right side.

2:00 PM

We have our first “floater” — the love seat.

2:30 PM

This is nanay trying to load as many food supplies as she could. The water is just an inch or two shy from the top of the dining table. (we were supposed to remove everything on top of the table and bring it upstairs as well…pero hindi na rin namin nagawa)

3:15 PM

4:20 PM

5:00 PM

6:00 PM

6:42 PM

I think at this time, I stopped attempting to rescue more things from Nanay’s room. Parang pelikula lang. Madilim. Malalim ang tubig. Maraming lumulutang – fridge, tables, chairs, jars … I had to push them away para makadaan lng ako. I was scared din kse baka biglang bumagsak sa akin yung ibang mga cabinet pagdaan ko.

Water reached up to my chin in Nanay’s room. Graveh ang adrenaline rush. Kahit gaano kabigat — carry na!

Second floor.

8:15 PM

One last look.

8:30 PM

We are still lucky, no one was hurt in our family and we had a place to stay… we were dry and warm for the night.

THE AFTERMATH

Kuya Armin and Ate Sharlene also lost everything … It’s a good thing, the house Kuya Armin having built has a second floor (just at the backyard of Ate Sharlene’s house). They all stayed there .. together with a couple of their neighbors and friends.

Thank God we are all safe.
